Feedback gevenAbout a month ago out of town friends and I attempted to have a nice Saturday evening out at St. Remy. It turned out to be embarrassing as I had chosen this “upscale” restaurant. My friends arrived early for drinks and had been waiting for...20 minutes for their drink order when I arrived. Their drinks arrived and I ordered a dirty vodka martini which they didn’t have. The kid didn’t know what a dirty martini is and offered my some onions! Ok, let’s keep this simple, a Margarita. Nope, not at this restaurant in Mexico! Third choice, vodka/soda. No soda. Ended up with some lousy, house white wine which took another 15 minutes to arrive. There were four waiters on the floor, only one working. He was literally running from our table to the bar which was loaded with visual dirty dishes that seriously needed to be removed. The poor kid probably had never eaten anywhere but a local taco stand, untrained, with no appreciation for of the level of food or service St. Remy’s likes to portray they give. They simply don’t. A table of eight arrived about 30 minutes after us. Their entrée order was taken and put into the kitchen before our waiter approached us for our order, 3 persons who were there long before. By this time, we were feeling invisible. We knew we would be there forever. Hungry and disgusted we paid our bill which still took too long and left for Casa Linda close by. Casa Linda, Ajijic has never let me down, I’ve eaten there many times, consistently good food and service. I won’t go back to St. Remy until there are new owners, the place is clean, and service is greatly improved. The property itself is lovely, beautiful gardens and ambience, a beautiful setting. My friends stayed at the B&B there and had a wonderful stay. Too bad about the restaurant.
The service is so ridiculously slow and unorganized its frustrating. Sat for ever and had to ask for menus finally. Never offered coffee and the bread did not come until the end of the meal and we had to ask for it. Our orders were...brought to the table and left on the serving tray while the waiter chatted with another table asking questions. Food was ice cold. Eggs were not cooked- whites runny. Left hungry. The 3 young waiters were trying their hardest. They need more training and another waiter/helper on Sundays. At least unlimited mimosas came with the meal. Cheers and happy eats.
French cuisine at Chapala Lake, go to Ajijic. This restaurant is a gem in the middle of this Magic Town. The best escargots are here, not to mention the duck.
I've been a client of the hotel for a long time and I love staying there, but this last time I stayed at the hotel, the restaurant is now separated and is St Remy. We had the worst experience that the staff at their phones was all the time, we had to ask for food several times. During our stay of 2 nights they never had beer, the answer of the staff was “we only have 1 Corona and 4 Ultras”, that was the first day. On the second day we asked for beer again and they said: "We only have 4 ultras and we don't even have ice" as they bring the rest of the drinks forever. They left the dirty plates and glasses by the pool for hours. For our last day for breakfast they took a long time to bring our food and they took the order wrong. It is sad to see that such a good hotel has so bad to do with a restaurant that has good food, extremely bad service and lack of drinks.
Mediocre and overpriced. This restaurant was located in a beautiful Hacienda with ample parking. Now you are at The Donaire Hotel, which is not only difficult to access, the only parking is reserved for hotel guests. Although the parking lot was empty, they let us move our car and use their parking facilities. We appreciate it being a problem between the hotel and the restaurant, but if the hotel is not full.... Really? Only two spots of guests. If we asked about the wine list, they don't have one. The red wines were $1,000 pesos per bottle, which is pretty much twice everywhere else. We decided to order the glass, and our server told us we could buy this bottle for $600 pesos. What the hell? The food was okay, and the service wasn't even that! There are many restaurants in Ajijic that have as good or better food at better prices and much better service. We went there because our friend loved the frog legs, and he enjoyed them very much. The rest of our party was “meh”. I'm sorry, but we won't be back.
