Another person opted for chicken and waffles. Typically, I've found that cornbread, collard greens, and yams are rarely done well in restaurants; I've never encountered those sides at a restaurant that could match the quality of a home-cooked meal. However, Marques absolutely nailed all three dishes. Moreover, restaurant fried chicken is usually deep-fried, but Marques seems to pan-fry his chicken, which makes it reminiscent of how my mother and grandmother used to prepare it. Those in our group who had chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, or macaroni and cheese were equally impressed by their meals. Additionally, the pricing was reasonable, and I appreciated the modern atmosphere of the restaurant. The server and chef were also friendly and attentive. Overall, this is a fantastic spot if you're craving American Southern food or "soul food." P.S. Thank you for sending my hat back to me in Massachusetts—it’s one of my favorites!
I've been on the hunt for gizzards, and a friend suggested a restaurant called Marquis. I tried the gizzards there, and while they were well-seasoned, they didn't seem fresh—they tasted like they had been prepared long before I arrived. My friend ordered the chicken gumbo, which was smoky and beefy without any seasoning. It was supposed to be chicken and sausage gumbo, but there wasn't any sausage in it at all. After just one bite, I ended up throwing away my plate as well as my friend's.
I’m visiting from North Carolina and had to give this place a try. The gumbo, jambalaya, and fried chicken are absolutely amazing. It's the best food I've had in a long time. This was only my second day here, and I’m definitely coming back tomorrow for a third meal. Thank you for the incredible food! No need for photos; the food says it all.
I've wanted to try this restaurant for a few weeks, and I finally had the chance to go. The blackened salmon was slightly over-seasoned but perfectly cooked. The fried okra and black-eyed peas were incredibly delicious. I also enjoyed the mac and cheese and yams, which allowed me to have a second meal later on. They definitely don’t skimp on the portions. The ambiance is lovely, there's ample parking, and the staff is attentive with efficient service. I visited on a weekend in the late afternoon, and I was able to take a call and work remotely, which was a plus. The music created a fantastic atmosphere. I would certainly return to this place. I hope you find this review useful; if you do, I’d appreciate a thumbs up. Thank you!
The atmosphere was pleasant and the server was kind and attentive. I ordered the two-piece white chicken along with mac and cheese and sweet potatoes for my sides, and I also decided to try the red beans, rice, and greens. The chicken was perfectly fried, with a crispy exterior and juicy interior. The sides were good, although I wasn't fond of the greens—they didn’t seem to be cooked with the traditional neck bone, ham hock, or salt pork, so they lacked flavor. Overall, it was a great place, and I plan to return and bring friends to experience it as well!
