Black Duck Gourmet Pantry - Albany

I called in for a takeaway coffee and cake after seeing the cafe next door where I was heading was a hive of activity and I didn't want to wait. Black Duck was empty and no wonder. The woman barely dragged herself from a hiding hole behind the counter to take my order. I asked for a large skinny cappuccino to take away and was quickly told the there is only one size and they only use a hi Lo milk. The cake selection was dismal but I chose a muffin and declined the offer to have it heated. When I got into my car, I checked the muffin and it was just a cold hard rock. Inedible. Black Duck in supposed to be famous for its pies but at 12 noon, there was only 3 in the pie warmer so they clearly weren't expecting much custom. No wonder it was empty while next door was overflowing. I mentioned my experience to someone else and they confirmed that it was always like that. I won't bother to go back.

This restaurant is outstanding. They have a wide variety of beautiful products available. Barbara is incredibly friendly and helpful, and she is always ready to offer her expertise on local items. The restaurant offers a selection of both hot and cold drinks. Their chocolate is delicious, and my top pick is the peanut brittle.

The restaurant offers an incredible selection of locally sourced produce, making it a must-visit for any food lover in the Albany region. Nearly all of their ingredients are sourced from local suppliers, and the service and product knowledge were top-notch.
