California Tortilla - Alexandria

The staff seemed unenthusiastic during my visit. I requested spicy sauce, salsa picante, or pico with jalapeños, but I received none of it. The guacamole was extremely chunky, as shown in the photo. The server must have noticed the chunks while scooping it into the container, but I guess since it's takeout, it didn't matter to them!

Since my last visit, things have taken a turn for the worse. First of all, who enjoys chewy cubed chicken? Definitely not me! And don’t even get me started on the queso—I paid extra for it, but it was nowhere to be found! The rice was hard and undercooked, which I absolutely cannot tolerate. The photos show the chewy chicken, the disappointing rice, and an elusive queso that seemed more like a ghost because I couldn't see it at all! I previously wrote a glowing review saying how much I appreciated having a Tex-Mex restaurant nearby, praising the queso and hot sauce, but now I'm left feeling quite the opposite.

I tried the California Screamin' Burrito, and it was delicious, especially with the spicy fried chicken. I also ordered a side of their nachos with queso, which were tasty as well. What I really loved about this place is the shelf of hot sauces available, rated from 1 to 10, with 10+ being the spiciest. The staff was very helpful in selecting the food and sauces, and they were genuinely friendly.

I've never written a review before, but this experience was the worst. The chicken taco was unpleasant, the pork was tasteless, and they couldn't even get the cheese quesadilla right. I waited in the restaurant for my order, and everything was cold. I can't believe how bad it was. I spent $35 on six tacos and a quesadilla, not including the tip. I should have gone to Cava or Chipotle where I would have paid less for much better food. I'm really disappointed.

I’ve dined here several times but had never tried the fajitas until now. They might be the best dish on the menu! I really loved the fajitas, and the portion was enormous. I’m so glad I discovered them!
