This is a restaurant you should definitely visit at least once if you enjoy a rustic colonial dining experience. The food ranged from average (the beef bordelaise) to excellent (the pork chop). However, I found the "half chicken" a bit misleading; it was actually two quarters (leg and thigh), which technically qualifies as a half chicken, but where I'm from, a half chicken includes a leg, thigh, breast, and wing. The appetizers were very good, and I appreciated that the prices weren’t inflated like at many other places. The service was solid, although there were no period costumes or actors, which might only be present on weekends.
Parking is limited to street parking, so keep that in mind when you visit. This restaurant is definitely worth a try, not just for the food but also for its historical significance. The food is delicious, and the atmosphere is quite comfortable. The service was decent, but I felt we could have received a bit more attention, especially since we arrived during a non-peak time (at 2:00 pm). I’m not sure why that was the case. I visited this place once before, and it was just as good then, so you can expect consistency. My wife ordered the Tavern salad with shrimp, while I opted for the roast beef and brie dip—although I didn’t detect any horseradish in it.
Good food at not over the top prices. A classic colonial tavern experience, similar to what one expects in Colonial Williamsburg, including a in character guest who greets each table,
Staff were very accommodating and professional during our recent trip there!!
