Main Street Fisheries - Allerdale

We had to wait for more than 30 minutes to be served, and then waited an additional 20 minutes for our food. When we finally got home, we realized that the cod was missing, with only a thick layer of batter and a small piece of cod. The chips were decent, but the mushy peas had an odd smell. Overall, we were extremely disappointed and felt like we wasted our money. After driving over 7 hours to get there, we were exhausted and just wanted a good meal, but received subpar batter and chips instead. It was a disappointing start to our holiday.

We randomly stopped by just before closing time on a Friday evening (apologies). The staff were extremely accommodating and even made us some halloumi fries, which were not on the menu that night. They were delicious and we also thoroughly enjoyed the fish and chips. It was the best we've had!

This restaurant lives up to its reputation. It may be the only dining option in Cockermouth, so be prepared for a possible wait, but it's worth it for the fresh and hot food. I will definitely return next time I'm in the area.

We were in Cockermouth for a week and there was regularly a queue ouside this fish and chip shop when we passed by always a good sign. Portions were substantial and the fish was excellent. The chips could have been better though.

A nice fish and chip shops. Homemade steak pie is 10/10. Friendly staff. Chips are also very good. In a good location on the main street of Cockermouth.
