We have eaten up in the restaurant (waiter service) that is excellent. we ate down in the self-service restaurant, which is also excellent. but our child lover was the pizza. made to order and cook in a pizza oven before them. Economic, big and tasty. recommend this for a lunch stop while skiing or a coffee/hot-choir for apres ski. a pizza 7,5 9.5 euro depending on toppings. we had three between 5 and didn't make it. with drinks we ate for 5 of us under 40 euro.
Typical mountain type cafeteria eat. slightly overpriced, but they pay for the place when skiing. great hut means that they find a table also in the school holidays.
For the first time here in 2004, it was ok. we were twice this holiday and really liked him. the place had a renovation on the top floor, beautiful log fire, great sitting area, great staff, nice eating, great atmosphere and great to take the weight of your...Ski boots, would definitely go back.
The Gasthof Hornboden is one of the places to eat on the slopes at the Alpbach ski resort. It's located at one of the main junctions of the slopes, hence it is absolutely enormous and gets packed every day (many of the ski schools use...it as a place to take people for lunch). The food is served in the style of a big motorway service station where you queue up at each station, depending on what it is you'd like. There's a huge seating area however, even with all the seats available it stills gets very busy and it can be impossible to get a seat inside during high season. However, having said all that, the key question is what is the food like. I ordered the lasagne and it was very dry. Plus the bottom two pasta sheets hadn't been cooked properly, which made it both dry and tough. I was going to order the wurst mit pommes, but then I saw that they deep fry their wurst rather than steam or boil them yuk! All around the place, you see plates of half eaten food that people have left behind, so I would say that I'm certainly not alone in my view of their food.
