Hoppy's Cantina - Amesbury

Hoppys is in a great location with a cute little bar and cozy warm atmosphere. The place is clean and the staff friendly. When we were there it was later in the evening on the weekend and only a few other people there.The drinks were ... potent to say the least. If that's you're cup of tea, your in luck. The tequila drinks packed a punch.As for food; I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. The scotch egg was fantastic. Just ask for bbq sauce on the side. It's really not needed here. The 3 tacos I ordered were also good, but for the size of the shell they were not stuffed like in the pictures. Now for the bad. In a cantina Salsa and guac should always be freshly made, full of lime and salted well. What I got was out of a jar. I look forward to my Pork belly being lightly charred and salted to bring out the sweetness. A dipping sauce on the side would be fine, but the bbq sauce on it overpowered the flavor. In the end it tasted like bbq ham.I don't want to end on a bad note because the service was great. Like I said, it was later in the evening and maybe it was just an off night. First impressions are everything in this business and for the service I'm willing to give them a second shot.

Great quality food! Frequently awesome specials, like smoked beef brisket. And you've got to try thier Campfire Marguerita

Great margaritas and good food. Steak tacos are tasty too.

The food is good enough, but a little pricey for the portions, especially apps. The exception is the burrito. Owner is friendly and chatty. Not recommended for families with young children, as the conversations and music can be inappropriately adult (and I'm no prude, but my daughter was uncomfortable so I won't bring her back if I return). It's more of a bar feel, and I would recommend for mature folk. Not really for a quiet night out. Margaritas are delicious and make up for the limited alcohol selection.Kid-friendliness: Not very kid friendly depending on music rotation and other customers as you're always in earshot of the bar , and inappropriate dialogue seems encouraged by staff. They do, however, have a kid's menu.

Get the off menu tacos (whatever’s on the chef’s mind! , and the jefe margarita!! Chef Sean is amazing…the sauces on the tacos are incredible.My husband and I recently moved from LA and have been looking for tacos and burritos that lived up to the west coast, and this place sure did. So delicious. Great kickback environment too : .
