Real excellent breakfast. Could barely find it right next to a storage unit and from the outside it's a hole in wall but fear not food is worth it.
Yelp had this one at 4.5 stars, and with a storefront like it 's got, it was a can 't-miss opportunity. Six to eight tables, max; red vinyl upholstery, ragged menus, and cash only. So far, so good. Salsa: the salsa comes out with half red and half green poured together into a small bowl. The red is almost inedible; almost no chile influence at all, texture and spice reminiscent of tomato paste. The green, however, is very close to the green salsa at Tacos Garcia on Ross St. in Amarillo: boiled jalapeño and onion puree, slightly undersalted, and enough giddy-up to justify asking for another bowl of green only...except that extra bowls of salsa are $0.95. Chips are OK, thin, but not bad. Entree: Chile verde was piping hot, made from tender beef, lean enough, but almost no chile flavor at all. More like a beef stew. Savory, but not New Mexican chile verde. (And no, I did not mistakenly order carne guisada. There was one visible chunk of jalapeño in the gravy, which is another indicator that we 're not here dealing with Land of Enchantment natives. Flour tortilla: redemptive. Thick, smoking hot, served in a styrofoam vessel, large...one was large enough for the whole meal. Refritos and rice were ordinary. Price: $13. Mercy. Oil patch inflation, I guess. Summary: Not altogether horrible, but way too proud of their food. And don 't raise a New Mexico boy 's hopes with chile verde only to dash them against the rocks. We 're less than a half hour from the state line, for Pedro 's sake!
The worst customer service you could experience. Ordered breakfast burritos and brought them home, 9 miles out of town. The entire order was wrong and when I called to explain, the owner stated he wouldn 't give credit or remake the order without me bringing back every burrito. I explained I wasn 't going to drive 20 miles round trip just to return them and he said then you will have to make do with what you got . I will never eat there again and will tell everyone I come across about this.
Very small place where you get treated like family. The food is wonderful and I 've been told very representative of Old Mexico cooking. You can get the salsa Gerber or burn you down and don 't ever, ever tell Greg he can 't get it too hot for you !! :
