Whiskey River - Ankeny

Big selection and fair prices, variety of locals and travelers all treated well. Burgers are great and portions are filling. Just save room for a whiskey!

This bar is a lot of fun with an excellent staff. The toy bucket punch drinks are delicious and unique, although longer straws would be helpful. Additionally, I was impressed that they chilled the tequila for our shots, which shows they really go above and beyond for their customers.

My experience at the restaurant wasn't great. We decided to sit at the bar and ordered some appetizers and drinks. Unfortunately, the service was slow, even though there were a few people working behind the bar. Only one guy ended up helping us, and he was very nice. The cheese balls were tasty, but there weren't many of them. The Reuben egg rolls were just okay, not very impressive - a sandwich would have been a better choice. The Mexican nachos were a small portion for the price and quite bland, so we asked for them to be taken off our bill. The bartender was understanding and accommodating about it. The music was enjoyable, though loud for some. Overall, we were disappointed with the food and won't be returning. We should have heeded the warnings from previous reviews.

The service at this restaurant was excellent, with all the staff behind the bar being friendly and attentive. Although they were out of stock of many ingredients for certain drinks, they were helpful in recommending alternative options. I will definitely return!

I'm not sure if they were understaffed, but the service could have been much better. There were times we saw our server leaning and talking with the other servers, one of those times my oldest son had to get up and get our server so we could get refills and order. The food was fantastic and reasonably priced for the location. This is a cool place, but could be a bit cleaner.
