It was our second time at this pop-up, so I already knew what I was in for when we arrived. The pop-up is in a business park, so after hours there's plenty of parking. You walk in, order, pick out a drink or have some free tea, grab your utensils and a seat. It's not fancy or romantic, but in a few minutes you'll have a delicious bowl of ramen for you! I love the flavor of the truffle ramen and I drank every drop of the broth which is perfectly flavored and not too salty. Bottom line:Love this place. It's a bit of a drive to Annapolis Junction, so I can't wait for their new shop to open in the district!
Good ramen is very difficult to find so we're very happy we found one so close to us! The service is excellent and it is worth the small wait (got busy very fast as soon as the doors opened which is a good thing). The broth was extremely flavorful and the the one for the Tsukemen was thick and actually adhered to the noodles unlike other ones we have had. The noodles were cooked perfectly with the right chew and they serve it with nice thick pieces of chashu which was so tender and had a great balance of meat to fat ratio! A must go to spot for ramen!!!
Today I took another trip to Menya Hosaki to try their Shoyu Ramen. This pop up is located at Junction Deli in Annapolis Junction, MD. They are currently working on their permanent location in DC, but for now check out this awesome Ramen Popup. Onto the ramen last time I came I ordered the tonkotsu, which was fantastic, but the shoyu is what brought me back today. Starting out, just visually this bowl of ramen was perfect, the thick chashu was nice and charred, egg perfectly cooked, everything looked so fresh. The broth, oh man the broth. So many deep layers of flavor. I could just sip it all day. It was savory without being too salty, and gave you that smack your lips feeling. The noodles from shimamoto noodle were perfect, I could slurp all day. Great chew and doneness, they were just incredible. They paired nicely with the broth and toppings. Next time I'll be getting the Tsukemen. Each time gotta get something new. Keep it up Menya Hosaki I've been telling everyone I know about your shop. I hope my other local foodie friends stop through.
Excellent Ramen The chef makes all the noodles Broths homemade. Each Of the five choices of ramen are made with different styles of noodles. I hope these guys are getting their own pad soon because they deserve it. Also really good Music, that made our wait enjoyable.
This is the kind of place you hope to find on Yelp. Someone's sweat, tears, dreams, and heart in their food that makes you appreciate just how much someone can care about their food and the experience. Tonkotsu Spicy is not really spicy, despite the color. It's got a nice nod to the seasoning, blending in well with a pork heavy flavored broth, plated beautifully with some fresh torched chashu some of the best I've had in a long time and generously cut. I wish there was more soup though, I cleaned the bowl out. Negi Ramen had the best soup flavor if you're looking for less rich broth. It's definitely not as fatty and had a stronger dashi taste, with great noodles for slurping. D wished the scallions were more and sliced smaller like in Japan where they pile them on, but the torched taste added nice depth. Great care on the food, but had to give them some slack on the venue and serving time. 4.5 stars because it felt a little still like there was room to grow and I'm excited to try them once they're settled into DC proper. They're currently set up in the owner's parent deli out in Maryland (look for the deli sign) while he waits for their actual restaurant in Petsworth to finish in March. Will be here at this location until February 2020 try it while you can beat the DC rush!
