Kobe Cuisine Millbrook Resort

I’ve lived in Queenstown for two and a half years and have dined at countless restaurants, but this one truly amazed me! We sampled nine dishes, and each one was simply exceptional. It was a pleasure to watch the chef prepare our food on the teppanyaki grill; he was delightful and took the time to share insights about the dishes and the flavors. I will definitely be returning!

This restaurant features an open kitchen in a Japanese style, with both indoor and outdoor seating. From the inside, there’s a surprisingly breathtaking view of the lower valley extending towards the Remarkables and Queenstown. The service is attentive, and the atmosphere is casual. While the plate sizes are modest, we initially worried this would increase our overall dining expenses. However, our final bill of around $100 for two (excluding wine) felt quite reasonable. The sushi and sashimi platter was top-notch in both quality and presentation, and the pork dish evoked fond memories of fine dining experiences in Japan.

We enjoyed the tuna sushi, wagyu beef, and scallops with rice cakes, all of which were outstanding. My only note is that the portion sizes are quite small, so one person might need to order three main dishes to feel satisfied. As a result, you can expect to spend around $100 per person just on food for a fulfilling meal.

We managed to get a last minute early booking, we had stayed at Millbrook several times however this was the first time dining at Kobe. It did not disappoint, one of the finest Japanese meals weve experienced. Serving sizes were on the smaller side however packed with flavour. Small but cozy restaurant. Dishes were plated like works of art. Good selection of drinks.

It took some serious looking to even find this place but it was well worth the effort in almost freezing temperatures! Authentic, delicious and so very very comfortable to dine with. Kobe is situated within the Millbrook Resort, and has been run by the same chef for some 20+ plus years. Their food is delicate but flavours are lively. We ate in front of the Teppan, and it was an awesome experience to watch the chef cook up your next meal. Definitely coming again.
