The Knockerdown is a lovely pub great atmosphere and lovely staff. The camping not so good. The field was very wet with numerous cars and vans having to be pushed out. Thank goodness for a couple of men who seemed to have the job of doing it. Felt like it was a bit of a find your pitch and do what you want. Fire pits not allowed, there were 2 last night. Next to us was a group of teenagers smoking and drinking until 3 in the morning. Kids running around all hours of the night. I used the shower but only because I needed to. It was warm but that is the only positive. Relying on customers to clean it themselves is never going to work. Cheap weekend away and will stick to adult only from now on.
Food was hot, fresh and tasty! There was a wait, but the restaurant was full and they were still willing to fit us in as a takeaway order as we were camping on site. Due to delays, manageress offered us a free drink, but we politely declined as they were kind enough to accomodate us and it was 100% our fault for not booking in! The team were obviously super busy and trying to multitask, but were pleasant even with some difficult customers and a lot of dogs! A proper pub with good food, reasonable prices, log burners and games would absolutely come again.
We came here today has a treat and to visit as its reopened. Time was 3pm so no one in but us. Well we're do I start. We Ordered steak and a burger. The meal took quite a while. When it arrived my burger was in a basket and fries in a bowl. My friend was discussed and said it should be on a plate. My friends steak looked black on one side but when she cut into it it was OK. There waiter asked if the meal was OK. My friend said it was very Iver cooked on the outside, and all he said was as ling as its pink in the middle. At this point I was eating my burger with chorizo. I hate complaining and feel very uncomfortable to do so. But he came back and asked if my friends steak was OK. It was pink but you could not taste it due to the burnt outside taste. I thought this is ridiculous I was forcing myself to eat a totally burnt burger and chorizo. I said sorry I cant eat this it's burnt. The waiter said OK you don't have to pay for the burger. So we left our burnt offerings and paid over £22 for a burnt steak and 2 drinks. Very very disappointed and wont be back. I now have raging indigestion and a burning taste. Oh forgot to add waiter did say the chef was the best in Derbyshire. If he was a OK not the best chef he should of thrown away what we were given and started again. He should be ashamed The Waiter did say sorry you didn't enjoy your meal on leaving. The meal should of been FREE
Such a great place to stop off! We called here en route to CBeebies Land and enjoyed food and a warm welcome from the staff. Lovely ales on offer, play park for the kids and just lovely scenery. A great place to eat, drink and wake up. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
