Dickey's Barbecue Pit - Asheville

This was only our second visit to this restaurant, but it definitely won't be our last. The two staff members were very friendly and energetic. I'm not sure what some of the other reviewers are complaining about, because the food portions were generous. We've been to other local BBQ places, and their sandwiches contained half (or even less) of what we got here. The sides we ordered were also very tasty, and by the way, the spicy sauce makes for an excellent dip for the onion rings.

This place is a complete disappointment. I paid almost ten dollars for a tiny smoked meat sandwich on a bun, and there were no toppings included—it felt like an afterthought. The portion size of the meat was laughably small compared to the bun. To make matters worse, the meat had no sauce on it at all. I had to pay an extra dollar for a tiny ounce of sauce, and when I ordered the spicy BBQ, it turned out to be just regular sauce with some pepper flakes sprinkled in. They advertise a DIY BBQ experience, but if you ask for additional sauce, they provide barely enough to keep the meat moist. I really don’t understand why others rave about this place, but I definitely won’t be coming back.

The pork and sauce were fantastic, but the sides left much to be desired. The beans were tough, and the potatoes, which were labeled as casserole, were overly thick and lacked flavor. The rolls were not to my liking at all. However, I would definitely return for the BBQ, as that was, as I mentioned, excellent.

It wasn't busy today for lunch, but took a long time to get our food. I ordered a ribbed plate that was fat ribs and edible. The pages were decent. Will not return.

I have been wanting to try this place for a while and I am glad I did. The food was delicious,fresh and ribs full of meat. I have been to several other local chains for barbeque, such as Luellas, Sticky fingers in Greenville and this in my opinion was by far so much better! I most certainly will be back!
