Thirsty Monk Pub Brewery - Asheville

I don't understand why these businesses pay prime rent to be downtown if they don't want tourists to come in. The bartender downstairs was incredibly rude. Do not recommend.

This is my first time at Thirsty Monk. The atmosphere is super comfortable, even on a Saturday at 9:12 p.m. upstairs. I have not been downstairs yet. Although I wouldn't recommend it, I'd drink the Cherry Gose after a marathon, after a long day at a construction site, or while working on the yard. It was almost so light, that it was merely a layer heavier than a seltzer, but still had enough body to be a beer.

Amazing Cocktail bar. Has a beautiful rooftop with Asheville city views. Skilled bartenders who know their drinks. Wide range of whiskey.

In short, the bartender in the Yankees cap at the Thirsty Monk is a prime example of everything that can go wrong in the hospitality industry. His shortcomings not only diminish the experience of enjoying a drink in what should be a friendly atmosphere, but also tarnish the bar's reputation. This is a stark lesson in how not to be a bartender—a collection of what to avoid, all wrapped up in one individual. It leaves guests longing for a touch of competence and genuine professionalism.

I visited Asheville to explore the area as a potential move to the Carolinas and stumbled upon this bar. Sean, the bartender, was outstanding. He shared a wealth of information about the area and the bar itself, as well as his expertise on the beers. Sean was incredibly welcoming and chatted with us throughout our time there, making us feel right at home and creating a fantastic atmosphere. We tried some of his recommended beers and enjoyed beer flights, which were a lot of fun. It's a really laid-back place and I would definitely come back. P.S. Be sure to ask for Sean—he's the best!
