I visited twice. First time was two years ago in the old location. MUCH BETTER EXPERIENCE. Second time was this weekend. I have never written a review. But after my experience I felt compelled. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Maybe it was just an off night for the crew. I only saw two people working in a diner about half full. I 'll break it down Service: slow and bad. I NEVER got my Diet Coke. Eventually I just stopped asking. we had four couples. Each bill was wrong. Items were double charged, and charged to the wrong people. Atmosphere: Stale. Actually, couldn 't wait to leave. Fries: homemade style. Not bad, just average, passable. I didn 't finish them. (I always finish my food) Burger: average. Really soft bun. Not bad. Disappointing. Milk shake: runny, with small ice chunks. Not good. I didn 't finish it. Special note! Do not order the GREAT BALLS OF FIRE BURGER! I always try hot burgers. I love hot stuff. But this was OFF THE CHARTS. PAINFUL. and I had burning diarrhea for over 24 hours. While eating I wiped my face with a napkin. I managed to get pepper juice in my eye. I spent the next 5 minutes washing my eyes out in the bathroom sink. I 'm assuming that the burger was made wrong. If not, they NEED to offer a HUGE disclaimer. This was literally the hottest thing I have ever eaten.
The absolute best burgers in town, hands down! Great 50's atmosphere and swift service highlight Buddy's delicious food. Its no competition, this is my favorite restaurant in the Northwoods. Try for yourself and find what you've been missing!
Food is good, milkshakes are so think you can turn it upside down.
Cold grapes on a hot breakfast: Buddies Diner – Ashland, WI. Visit: breakfast on Sat 19th Sept 2015, by Ed Broughton This review illustrates that smart changes will occur at Buddies Diner because they have to; or the business will diminish. New owners arrived 2 months prior to this review, and the typically serves local characters and families: not out of towners. I wish them best, but they need to transform the old place: 4 5 for substance, but 2 5 for application. Food: the Menu is simple in choice, but cheerful and wholesomely good. Hearty food comes from the kitchen with solid portions and a satisfying taste, delivered with efficient service from the waitstaff. BUT: my standard breakfast came 25 mins after ordering with very cold grapes upon the hot eggs. While the idea is to add color presentation, cold grapes chill the food. Atmosphere: all the wait staff are ladies experienced in the challenging thankless job of multitasking, but moral seems a little thinly stretched. A new fancy computer till delays transactions, which in turn frustrates the wait staff. I saw multiple user interface incidents in an hour. Businesses use these tills because it tracks transactions precisely, but I think it’s having a detrimental effect to service and income. Saturday mornings should be bustling, but the whole place felt quiet and run down due to the space being too big. They need to cut the space by half because I don’t see any customers when walking past the front windows. An empty looking business repels prospective customers. A slow food turnaround time is fine if a place feel’s busy, but the space is too expansive so it just feels quiet and slow. Better to be smaller and thriving, than bigger and stagnant.
