I would not recommend this restaurant until they are open for a few months.
We went to Nello Alpine while in Aspen at New Years. We waited 20 minutes for initial service and after letting them know we were still waiting (after other later seated tables received water and bread and menus, which we had not), we were asked if we wanted a drink and made a point to tell us they could make anything. My wife ordered a Moscow Mule and they came back and asked if ginger ale would be OK as they had not ginger beer. We started to leave and the maitre'd came over and offered to comp our drinks if we would please stay. We stayed and ordered a carpaccio to start. When it came it was dark, had brown spots and crispy edges. Not good carpaccio. At that point we left. It had been 45 minutes and the maitre'd wanted to know why we wouldn't give them a chance that it had only been 10 minutes or so. As we left we overheard yelling in the kitchen. Not a good experience.
We were at the restaurant for an early (6:30 PM) New Years Eve dinner. The food was delicious but the service was poor. Our initial wine order was forgotten. When we ordered a bottle of wine for dinner, we were told that it had not arrived yet, but was still on the menu. When our waiter came to refill my water glass he poured the water in my wine glass. Finally, it took almost 20 minutes to get our check, it was almost as if they had forgotten us. Hopefully these problems will improve as the restaurant is open longer.
The prices are unreasonably high, the restaurant is very noisy, and the space does not work well for a fine dining restaurant. The food is reasonably good, but not a match with the high price.
My family and I visited Nello Alpine on Christmas evening. We were expecting an expensive dinner. While I don't mind paying extra for good food, I did not expect to have to pay exorbitant amount for a glass of wine. I asked our server for a glass of Chardonnay when we first sat down. Imagine my surprise when we received the bill and it was a $36 glass of Cakebread Chardonnay. I was not asked if that was what I wanted, nor was I told the cost. I will not return, nor will I recommend this restaurant to anyone. This despite the fact that my children said their steak was the best thet ever had. I do not appreciate being taken advantage of with regard to overpriced wine.
