Foodbox - Auckland Central

Finding delicious gluten-free food can be a challenge, especially when it comes to pancakes! The blueberry buckwheat pancakes here were absolutely fantastic! I added bacon, which took them to the next level of deliciousness. The service was excellent as well; the staff were not only friendly but also really funny.

We stumbled upon this restaurant in Newmarket while looking for coffee, and we were pleasantly surprised to discover the fantastic food they offer as well. We enjoyed a delicious risotto, steak sandwich, salmon salad, and some delightful cakes. The chef clearly has excellent skills. The coffee was the best we had in Auckland, thanks to the charming and witty barista/waiter. We liked the restaurant so much that we returned for our last lunch before leaving Auckland. We found many great spots in the city, but this one stands out as something special.

The space is quite small and fairly plain, with a few tables, some bar seating, and a nice collection of magazines and newspapers to look through. If you're hoping to work from here, you might be disappointed; I found no available outlets to charge my dying phone. Now, onto the food: I ordered the veggie frittata and the banana, honey cinnamon smoothie, both of which were quite disappointing. The frittata was very bland, and there were no condiments to enhance the flavor. The smoothie was overly sweet, with the cinnamon tasting more like crystallized sugar than anything else—yuck! I might consider giving them another chance, perhaps to try one of their homemade salads, but with some excellent competition nearby, I won’t be in a hurry to return.
