It is a small, unassuming square located just north of the drag on 31st and Guadalupe. The food is sourced daily from Lockhart. The counter service for pickup was efficient and seemed to be consistent for all customers. There are indoor and outdoor seating options available. The slim bratwurst is one of the best I've had, but at $26.99 per pound, it is also the most expensive in the city and not the best value. The thin BBQ sauce is delicious and they provide generous portions of it, along with plenty of broth, pickles, and crackers. We also tried the turkey, which was decent when paired with their sauce, but a bit dry without it. At $14.99, it is a fair price. The pork ribs were decent, better than Rudy’s but not as good as Salt Lick or Franklin's. They are priced at $18.99, which is a bit high. The sausage links didn't interest me, but the rest of my family enjoyed them. At $3.99, they are a decent option. We ordered four sides in pint-sized portions. The green beans and potato salad went quickly, while there was about half a pint of corn and coleslaw left. Each side was priced at $8.99, which is not a great value.
The pulled pork sandwich and macaroni and cheese were both delicious! If you're in Austin for work, I highly recommend making a stop at this restaurant.
Wow! My wife absolutely loved the pork she had at this restaurant. She said it was the best BBQ we have ever had. The meat was tender and had a smoky flavor, and her bratwurst was amazing. Usually when a restaurant expands, they lose something, but not this place. Their dedication to their BBQ is evident and this is what Texas BBQ is all about. Oh, and don't forget to try their cobbler.
Love blacks bbq, but I am used for the decor and cleanliness of the san marcos location. this location was safe, dirty toilets and flies both in the restaurant as outside. the mülleimer for us to dispose of the teller at the end was a danger and simply a kind of dirt. my feeling on blacks bbq just fell from 5 from 5 to 3 from 5.
I did my research and read the reviews and I knew that Blacks was NOT going to be my best Texas BBQ experience but it was close to my hotel so I stopped in for 6 ounces of brisket and some sides. Perhaps the brisket was sitting too long in the warmer but it was a bit dry, and lacked flavor. (Although their BBQ sauce was very good and helped out the brisket.. The green beans and Cole slaw were fine' the peach cobbler meh. Next stop Franklins.
