We like to go on Friday nights for the buffet so that we can have a variety of choices. El Faro serves great flavor with great prices. Everyone should definitely give it a try!
El Faro Taco is the best, most authentic Mexican food I've ever had. I could eat theit enchiladas for days. Not to mention the owners and their employees are amazing!!!
About the only place in town for REAL Mexican food, not Tex-Mex knock-offs. Small family owned restaurant with just about every typical Mexican dish there is. You have to give it a try!
Friday Night Buffet... Do It. Definitely get the buffet, which they offer Friday from 6pm 9pm. That way, you don 't have to choose just one thing. <br/ <br/ In a city like Austin, it 's really hard to get surprised by Mexican food. But, this place has flavors I haven 't had anywhere in town. The puerco tres chiles is phenomenal. Simply chunks of tender pork and tender potato in a stew of chiles and, well, flavor, that will leave you baffled with how they got that much flavor in PORK. Not to mention the 'Pollo Pepe ', which is a nicely marinated boneless chicken shredded in nice large pieces and also uber flavorful. The marinade reminded me of something Chinese, like soy and sweet together. Both of these meats make awesome little tacos on their homemade tortillas. Save room for the flan. It is made in house and is creamy and delicious. <br/ <br/ ps I apologize if any of the dish names were butchered in this post.
My new favorite.... They have a pork dish on the buffet that is excellent. Very tender, well seasoned and not fatty. The chicken was also excellent, a little char but still moist and flavorful. Those two dishes seemed to have an influence from the islands. The chile rellano was good, filled with white cheese and still a little crunchy even though it was on the buffet. The cheese enchiladas were wrapped in what seemed to be homemade white corn tortillas. I ladled some of their smoky and mild salsa over them for added flavor. OK, it was a buffet so I ate a little too much but it was too good to not try a little of each. There were also soups, a variety of salsas and several other dishes that I didn 't get to but that 's just a matter of time. We topped it off with a slice of 'my Mom made this today ' Tres Leches. It was the best we 've ever tried. Fresh, all the caramel flavors and not cloyingly sweet. Really the only word for it is perfect. The staff is very friendly and make sure you have a great time while you eat. We left happy, smiling and full. When is the last time you could say that about a restaurant?
