Freda's Seafood Grille - Austin

The seafood here is outstanding, and as someone from Florida, I really know fresh fish. It was fantastic! Everything was just to my taste.

Visiting Freda's is always a delightful experience. We took a friend there to celebrate his birthday, and I noted it in our reservation. It was the first restaurant that genuinely acknowledged the note. They greeted him with a cheerful "Happy Birthday" upon his arrival, even before we got there! They also surprised him with a complimentary dessert without me needing to ask. The food was, as always, delicious, and the service was excellent. Jarrett was both attentive and funny, enhancing our experience. On Friday nights, they have a pianist who adds a classy touch to the relaxed and fun atmosphere. I've been coming here for years and will keep recommending it to everyone. Thank you!

Yesterday marked my fifth visit to Freda's. I tend to stick to what I know, so I ordered the same dish as before, but this time the food was disappointing, still pricey, and the atmosphere was quite loud (I was seated in the bar area during Happy Hour). Will I go back? Probably not. The only reason I was willing to pay the high prices before was because the food was good—at least most of the time. Now, I've had two subpar meals, and I suspect the restaurant may be cutting corners during catering events and Happy Hour, when patrons are primarily there to drink. If I'm going to spend top dollar, I expect the food to be consistently good, regardless of the occasion, and unfortunately, it hasn't been.

Loved the Salmon Florentine. Also liked the house salad. The portions were adequate but not too much. We went at 1:00 pm and there were very few people in the restaurant. The service was excellent: efficient and pleasant but not pressuring to finish. It was obvious that Freda's emphasis was on quality rather than quantity.

I feel like OMG should summarize the review, but I am going to actually tell you more about it. To begin Jack waiter) was just great. So customer service always matters, in my opinion. Second, the food was just irresistible. It was our first time here and I am definitely coming back. I am NOT a fan of tilapia, but I want to say this was the best tilapia EVER or maybe of the year. Service was great. Maruja I hope I spelled her name correctly), receives you with a smile and she told us the “ secret” about keeping up with the orchids I actually went to the kitchen and personally thanked the chef. Great job Frieda’s. It was our first time and definitely coming back. Hubby ordered a brisket sandwich and I order the pecan tilapia. I recommend it 100%. That salad was the BOMB!!
