New Awlins Cafe - Austin

I was in Austin for the weekend and found the Asia Cafe online because it had good reviews. Unfortunately, someone painted the entire shopping center black. I guess they have a special on cheap black color. I almost turned around because this look is not inviting at all, but I was there a try. It is a very simple restaurant, nothing beautiful. Just order at the switch. I ordered the Spicy Chicken and it was sharp! It was ordered and the service was very fast. The order was large enough to take about half home, which is seen in the pull-out box. Yeah, that's half the portion. I came back the next day and ordered the Mongolian lamb. It was very delicate and overall very good.

I liked everything I loved, was the fried pork with tofu, but the beef with green beans and spicy pork was also good...

I've been here for years, everything before Covid was better than good and the prices were cheap, and the food came super fast. The restaurants in the service were closed by Covid, so I am happy that it finally opened, that are 2 years waiting people!! The self-service ice cream and the water are gone. If you want a drink, you need to buy them that are almost 4 dollars for everything, I just sneak next to the market and buy drinks. The cashier thought we didn't pay for our drinks, but they don't sell Ramune!! The price for food has risen, which is understandable, so all dishes are avg 19 dollars or more. The food was really great. I have my appetizers, twice cooked fish and beef and broccoli. The twice boiled was not so crispy and the beef and broccoli was somewhat sweeter than usual, but overall, still equal and satisfied, just a little more expensive.

This place is amazing. Super authentic delicious food. We drive out of our way to go there.

I am always satisfied when I come to Asia Cafe. It?s one of the hidden gems in north Austin. The portions are huge! Everything was seasoned well. We ordered salt &pepper fried tofu, bokchoy with mushrooms, spicy lamb, spicy chicken, and general Tso chicken. One star was deducted for covid precautions. They bring out the food for you, but all of the utensils and plates are placed on the side for the customers to get on their own. That doesn?t seem safe to me. Also, though the spicy lamb was good, I didn?t really taste the lamb, and the spicy chicken was kind of a disappointment. However, I had the spicy fish fillet last time and its delicious!
