Sawyer Co - Austin

I have been wanting to visit this restaurant for a while now. I have a love for all things mid-century and enjoy dining in restaurants that can transport me back to a simpler time. It is located in a somewhat neglected area, with overgrown grass and weeds, but there is a unique charm to it. When I arrived, I was surprised by how small the restaurant was. The walls looked dirty, with splattered food stains and the table had water marks on it. This made me question the cleanliness of the kitchen. They were still serving brunch at almost 3pm, which seemed odd to me. The menu was limited, with options like salads and gumbo. I decided on the gumbo and deviled eggs as an appetizer. The deviled eggs were delicious. The chicken and biscuits my brother ordered and the breakfast plate my mom ordered were average and lacked any special touch that would make them stand out. The waiter asked us how everything was, which made us wonder about the overall quality of the restaurant. The biscuits were cold and when we mentioned it to the waiter, he mentioned they were transitioning from brunch to lunch. This seemed like a poor excuse for serving cold food. The menu was small and lacked any unique twists that would make the restaurant stand out. I am hesitant to try their dinner menu due to the issues we experienced.

The restaurant's quality has declined since there may be a new owner, and it is not as well-maintained as before. The atmosphere is more energetic and loud than expected for a 9am breakfast, but it seems they are trying to create a fun environment. The server was great, but my husband felt ill after eating the chia seed granola bowl. My meal was good, especially the biscuits. The kids did not enjoy their eggs, but they tasted fine to me. The kids menu seemed to be a combination of breakfast and dinner/lunch options, probably because it is printed the same for all times of the day.

Great place, food was fantastic! Service was quick enough for a 1 hr lunch break.

This traditional Austin diner offers a menu that sticks to classic diner fare, but stands out with high-quality dishes, friendly staff, and a pleasant atmosphere. It's also a great spot for day-drinking!
