Still steaks and appetizers managed to order, both surprisingly tasty despite more basic environment. service was ok with waitress who managed to smile despite gap in the language and cheap price. it was very good (so cheap and almost cheerful) but not if they wanted any frills - in this case they would be disappointed. other more expensive places in the city, but for us less comfortable and in some cases already closed for the night
Basic and pleasant. great for a beer and a good place to watch for people. eating is good without lighting any light fire. pleasant terrace to view the square. but no place for dinner.
We have eaten somewhere on a Monday in august and then we have seen the café de l’europe. it is a typical brasserie with a cheap menu. we had a shaded table outside. in fact, all the meals were served outside as it was a hot sunny day. the service was friendly and eating was good brasserie eating. two of us had steak and one huh and it was delicious. they also had one of my favorite French desserts, île flottante. we'd eat here again if we're in avallon for lunch.
We were ready for a drink and a snack on the afternoon. not only the waiter needed a particularly long time to serve, but as he did, it was exceptionally rude. we stayed for neither drink nor snack after this treatment
Large establishment with probably the worst waiter we've ever encountered in a French restaurant. In England we would have been looking round for a Candid Camera moment but this was no joke. The wine was drinkable....just. The boeuf bourgignon on the other hand was quite...dreadful. A regional dish should be prepared with love and soul but this was two big chunks of fatty meat in sauce plonked in a dish with tinned potatoes thrown in. Not a beautiful baby onion in sight. Sorry but this is one to forget!
