With picturesque views of the water meadows, this part of the hotel is truly beautiful. The food is top-notch and enjoyed by both hikers and diners alike. The building's period features and narrow, creaky staircases add to its old-world charm, but guests with mobility issues should request an accessible room due to the lack of a lift. Despite being on the third floor with plenty of stairs to climb, I found my standard double room to be small yet lovely with a pleasant view of the river. The hotel is currently undergoing renovations, but my room was immaculate and well-equipped with quality amenities including comfortable bedding, a modern bathroom with a powerful shower, and a decent hairdryer. What truly sets this hotel apart is the exceptional staff who are incredibly friendly and helpful. I can't wait to come back.
Recently stayed at this hotel with my wife and pet dog for 2 nights. Had a superior room as no others were available. Checked in and went to room, smelt musty so opened window. There was a large stain on bedroom chair, dirt kept falling from air vent in bathroom when switched on. Shower curtain was a surprise!! This was in no way a superior room. Received a £20 credit for one night. The whole hotel felt tired and run down. Will not be staying again. Should have had both nights upgrade charge refunded as minimum.
Back at the Mill in Sudbury fo an Easter Bunny weekend. A deal we could not refuse. It did not disappoint We arrived after a somewhat delayed journey because of many roadworks. We dropped off our luggage because we wanted to visit the newly revamped Gainsborough House. It didn’t disappoint. Well worth a visit. We went back to the hotel in time to freshen up before dinner which was included in the offer. Breakfast was delicious then we walked to water meadows and took the old rail tract back into Sudbury. After a drink in the bar we then took afternoon cream tea which was included as well. A very relaxing break. D a R
We arrived at 12 noon and were taken to our table. We were at that point the only people in the dining room. After a few minutes we ordered three drinks, 15 minutes later they arrived. We ordered from the set menu, all ordered the same thing, so not a complicated order. A few more guests began to arrive and were duly served their food. After 35 minutes we enquired as to when our food would be served, after a further five minutes our food appeared and had clearly been sitting for a while as the Katsu Curry sauce had formed a ‘skin’. The food was ok but served luke warm. Our pre ordered apple pie desserts arrived, accompanied by three egg cup sized jugs of custard, we returned these to be heated. Ordered coffee, the Americana was undrinkable, tasted dire! Overall this was a very disappointing lunch, which spoiled what should have been a very happy occasion, three friends meeting up after many years apart. The table service was second rate, not once did the waitress come to check that we were happy with our meal. Sadly the Mill Hotel Restaurant, need to make several improvements, at the very least…serve the food hot, before we would consider returning.
I 've been to the Mill many times and to be fair, I 'm hoping this experience is a 'one off '. I brought my elderly mother for lunch. She hadn 't been out of her house for a couple of months due to a recent fall and was...
