Alte Zunft - Bad Säckingen

It was a sunny October day, so felt like our lunch somewhere with outdoor tablets in the sun and in the old part of the city. Almost the only place where this was possible was the 'Alte Zunft' (Alte Guild). The chairs and tables were a simple, functional wooden and metal construction, all in front of a typical old town building. We have just arrived from a pleasant 3-hour walk along the left, Swiss side of the Rhine and ordered the 'Zanderknusperli ', which means 'pan-fried pieces of pike-peache ', and they were served with a salad of salad, tomatoes, carrots, red beet and green paprika with a French dressing above. What we didn't like was the Tartare sauce for the fish on half a lemon that could only be used after a pretty mess. We had just arrived in time since all the tables were occupied. Probably the place that attracts people. I went to the bathroom that there are more tables on the upper floor, while below the square mainly works as a bar. I'm sorry for the waitress who was friendly and brought everything fast, but she was alone to work the full outdoor dinner and the indoor restaurant upstairs. In view of this, she did a great job.

We had dinner here and tried the typical Rosti which was not so bad… they have many different kinds of Rosti, the one I had was a basic one with Ham and Cheese on top. Portions were acceptable in size although it was a bit...heavy on my stomach. We also had a Caprese Salad which was very good and the bread was VERY fresh. My friends who had been here before said their quality is now not the same as it used to be in the past although I would like to try something else here again in the future…it was not really terrible and the place is very cozy.

We are no longer here and spontaneously decided to try the old Zunft again. It was worth it. Very nice staff, great selection and everything we had was very delicious. In any case, we will return:

Very cozy with plenty of wood furnished restaurant, over two floors. The food is very delicious. Free seats are also available.
