It was a larger town and we thought it would not be as interesting as Merida. But there are some big outlet shopping malls. Hotel staff recommended us to dine around the old town. The old town has great historical charm too. We found Casa Cacenebo, a hidden gem on one of the small alleys at the centre of old town. There were only three or four outdoor tables, nothing as compared to its bigger neighbours. But the food was marvellous. We had pork rind with pomegranate, caper, potatoes. One of the best dishes I had for the two weeks holiday in Spain and Portugal. It was refreshing and yummy. The flavours were well balanced. The waiter was very friendly but he does not speak English and we do not speak Spanish. We ordered the pork rind dish from the menu in English and two tapas dishes from the menu in Spanish After we placed the order, he tried to show us the English menu again. We thought he wanted to sell us more non-local dishes. We declined the offer. Then the food arrived. We got merrier and merrier thanks to the wonderful food and friendly waiter. He came out with the English menu again when we finished. We decided to communicate with him using Google translate. We finally found out that he wanted to know why we only ordered one dish from the English menu. Was it because the translation in the menu was no good? We all laughed about that. The translation did have some minor issues, e.g., the dish had small pieces of potatoes but it was translated as mashed potatoes instead. We ordered Spanish tapas because we love trying local dishes. All the food we ordered was fantastic and we had a great time at this tiny hidden gem. I would recommend them to provide some softer bread as an alternative.
