Some of the rooms have lofts, and I slept in oneIt is two mattresses on the floor right next to each other.
We headed here for a night out with the girls, a group of 6. A Friday night and only 3 tables in for dinner. The waitress who looked after us was friendly but clearly under the pump and running around trying to serve the people eating as well as those wanting drinks at the bar. I ordered a parma, the schnitzel was burnt but they just put the cheese and sauce on top anyway. 2 friends had the lamb burger, both of which had burnt buns. They had a 21st happening in the function room, which is connected to the dining room. It became rowdy (which is understandable, but not what you want when out for dinner) and the drinkers came spilling into the dining room. There were 3 behind the bar but still took a really long time to get coffees and a very long time to get/pay the bill. It was very underwhelming and I wouldn't go there again. It seems a bit of a confused venue - you need to be focused on dining or functions when they are so close.
I have been to Mr Rede on a number of occasions and have found it to be a fantastic 'spot'.I have had meals in the Restaurant and found them to be fantastic. The steaks are the best in town and the range of Parmigiana's is amazing (Mexican Parmigiana is best).I've also attended 2 large functions in the large function room and found the venue and the service to be fantastic.
I don't like bagging but this was pretty poor. Staff very ordinary. Ordered drinks with my wife having a sparkling. Staff member arrived with drinks and openly said that 'I don't think the sparkling has much bubble, so if you like I will open a new bottle!!!'; and she was right it was flat and she new that. Entree's were bad. Friend ordered calamari which was either just cold and slimey with a huge huge dose of salt and pepper; it was inedible. Others just ordered a garlic bread with cheese and mustard. This arrived with a huge huge dose of crushed garlic and it was so offensive as well. mains were just ordinary. It was a cold miserable night in Ballarat and the fact that there was only another couple there might not have had anything to do with the weather.I am not sure of the logistics of the building but on leaving we used the restrooms. Outside the ladies I noticed a couple of serves of bread just sitting on a table in the foyer area. The next minute a staffer arrived and picked the dishes up and proceeded to take them into the dining area. You would hope that this is not a general kitchen/staff proceedure. In short; don't bother.
