We were fortunate to have great weather during our visit. It was interesting to explore the expansive museum grounds with the kids, searching for gold. The staff members were dressed in period-appropriate attire and were incredibly friendly and informative. The highlight of our experience was the tour of the large gold nugget. The children also loved seeing the animals and walking through the historic homes. This weekend trip from Melbourne was truly wonderful and well worth it.
Even though the buildings were constructed in the 1970s, they are all well-maintained. The staff dressed in 70s attire and acted as if they were still in that era, making the experience very authentic. While some felt that the commentary from the tour guide was a bit political, she may have been instructed to speak in that manner. After reading a recommendation about the New York Bakery, we decided to visit Hope Bakery instead. Their pies and desserts were delicious, particularly the apple crumble which was the best we've ever had. We also opted for the 'Trapped' guided tour for an additional cost. The experience of going underground felt very realistic, and our tour guide, who was a descendent of one of the victims, made the tour even more special with his personal connection to the story. The shops had reasonable prices and there were enjoyable activities like gold panning, bowling, and candle decorating. Numerous free demonstrations kept us entertained throughout the day and made the time fly by. Our first visit to Sovereign Hill was truly enjoyable and we highly recommend it to everyone.
I hadn't returned to this restaurant since I was 11 years old, so coming back with my kids was a special treat. We had a great time exploring the mine, buying some hard boiled candies, and participating in a fun candle making activity. Despite the heat of the summer day, we couldn't resist trying our luck at panning for gold. Overall, it was a delightful experience.
Lots of fun with many things to do and see. We loved finding some gold dust specks while panning and the kids loves the candle dipping at only $5 to do. The night show was amazing! We went with grandparents and children ages 4, 7 and 10. Only improvement would be better signage for toilets as we found them a bit hard to find quickly with little kids.
Lovely people there honestly. It was a great experience for us. Loved the acting. The Hamper lunch was delicious. It was very hot today but don't worry plenty of places to cool down. They even spray a hose for those not worried about getting wet. Lots to do and see. You can make it a whole day experience so make sure u wear comfy shoes, also charge up your phones.
