Bunch of Grapes Hotel - Ballarat

Any pub that is child friendly is good with us! The meals have all been lovely and large we have dined 3 or 4 times over the past 3 yrs as we are visitors to ballarat for family. Our 3 excitable kids are often a reason we don't dine out but the noise proof playroom is a huge plus for us! Prices are maybe a little high when we have to buy 5 but the peaceful dining experience the playroom gives is worth the extra!! We have always had friendly service and suggest this place our friends and family

My partner and I are locals in Ballarat and thought we'd give the BOG a try. The decor inside the restaurant is nice, but the food is truly awful. The sweet chilli pizza was a slimy, greasy mess that even the waiter agreed was unappetising. There was only one main vegetarian option listed - roast vegetable risotto - and it was pure slop. Greased up with pesto and stodgy rice. My partner's steak sandwich was made with cheap, sinewy meat that couldn't be easily cut with a knife. We both regret going here and we both feel sick.

We used to visit the bistro often - our 'local' - before the refurbishment but hadn't got around to trying it since. Previously the staff had been friendly, and the food plain, but good and inexpensive. The space had a very cosy feel and we often visited for a relaxed meal when we were too tired to cook. The new bistro has a very good appearance - if a bit stark - but otherwise it is disappointing. The staff are surly. One example is that we hadn't been asked to order at the counter, and were waiting to order; there were three staff behind the counter chatting and we couldn't attract their attention. So I approached the counter and was told very bluntly 'You have to order here'. That set the tone really. The food was OK (nothing special) but to me it seemed overpriced for a suburban pub. The main course also took a while arriving. It is now 'fancy food' not pub food. If I was spending that much (nearly $40 for a main, without accompaniments such as potatoes) I would go somewhere where staff were more hospitable (and where you didn't have to order at the counter like in a bar!).We visited on a Sunday evening; it was pretty empty and I can see why. We won't go again.

Visited the hotel with friends on a very busy Friday night, the staff where friendly and polite. Meals were served promptly and the portions were generous.There are options for Gluten Free, Vegetarians and Meat lovers, all meals were beautiful and cooked to perfection.Reasonably priced, great food, clean, neat and family friendly hotel.

Great room for functions behind main bar. Staff were incredibly helpful and the hot food options that was catered for was plentiful and very filling! The pizza that came out was delicious. It appears family friendly and has a small outdoor play area.
