However, even my selective eaters discovered something they enjoyed! I was taken aback by the open-faced sandwich, but it turned out to be incredible! The combination of gruyere, shredded turkey, and toasted bread was absolutely delightful! With limited seating for about 30 people, the atmosphere felt cozy without being as cramped as we initially expected when we walked through the front door.
Parking was very convenient; when you reach the intersection of Maryland Ave and Preston Street, just make a left into a large public parking lot. The rates are very reasonable at $2 per hour, and it's impressive that they accept both cash and card—a rarity for paid parking in Baltimore City. The walk back to Soups On is short, probably less than the length of a city block. Inside, the atmosphere is quite rustic. There are a few stairs to navigate, so if you have mobility issues, I recommend bringing a friend or asking for assistance. You place your order at a window at the top of the stairs. The menu changes daily and is displayed on a chalkboard next to the window, offering a selection of soups and sandwiches. Beverages are available in an upright cooler for you to choose from. We ordered a cream of seafood soup, the French Onion Soup, and a Cuban sandwich cut in half to share as an appetizer. The prices were incredibly affordable; our total for the soups and two drinks came to about $22! There are three sizes of soup: small, medium, and large, and we both chose the medium size. The quaint seating area at the front has large windows overlooking Preston Street, with additional tables and seating upstairs reached by a long staircase. The food was absolutely delicious. The sandwich was spot on, and the bread was fantastic. Both of our soups exceeded our expectations—very fresh and flavorful! Even the bathroom was impressive—super rustic and impeccably clean! We plan to return because we truly enjoyed the whole experience.
The sandwiches and soup were excellent. The restaurant exudes charming old-city vibes.
