This dam is the tallest.Lovely view from the bridge.we went there when there is no stream of water... if you visit while there is a stream of water from the doors, it could be really wonderful. From the bridge less than 2 to 3 km is the dam, stay there for a while. We visited while traveling to Omkareshwar, unexpectedly the road is superb from Ashta. Throughly enjoyed the road trip cause traveled through the woods till Punasa... during the rainy season (drizzling) if you go, can enjoy nature. Back water from Narmada river,ghats,forest....no words...just forget about everything and enjoy. After Knood, no shops available so if you have your own food, you can sit down between your travels and have fun.. Once you arrive in Punasa, you will find Dhaba.
Its a very beautiful place you should go towards back waters then you will find blue everywhere you will get lost in the nature and the atmosphere you can try and explore this place.
The Indira Sagar Dam is the largest dam in India, in terms of volume of water stored in the reservoir. It is located on the Narmada River at the town of Narmada Nagar, Punasa in the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh . The foundation stone of the project was laid by the prime minister of India Indira Gandhi on 23 October 1984. Indira Sagar Project is a multipurpose Project with an installed capacity of 1,000 MW, with annual energy generation of 2,698 million units in Stage I, 1,850 million units in Stage II, and 1,515 million units in Stage III, and annual irrigation of 2.65 Lac. There is also Guest House for Visitors Applicable Charges .
The view is too good when all the gates of the dam are open, specially during the night when the tricolour (national flag) lights are turned on. You could feel the shower of water falling from the dam on the bridge in front of it. And the same Narmada river goes from the Omkareshwar temple (one of the 12 jyotirlinga's).
