I dined at Capt Kats with my family on a recommendation from a friend. As a born and raised maritimer who has eaten at dozens of restaurants that serve lobster, I was floored by the prices. My creamed lobster over haddock was a small portion...of seafood disgused as a large meal with a (delicious homemade hamburger bun and mashed potatos. It was It was cooked well, but extremely overpriced for what I was served. My mom and brother both had lobster rolls, and while they said they were good.. they were not the best they’ve had. At the risk of sounding rude, save your money.
Stopped in during a road trip along the Lighthouse Route Yes, agree, there is a good variety of lobster-related foods here. The prices though were shocking. And we've had seafood in parts of NS so far (Fr Halifax, to Pleasant Bay, to Baddeck, and...Digby, and Yarmouth, etc). Husband's lobster chowder bowl was potato-filled with some gnarly pieces of lobster he could barely chew. It was milk-based, not cream based and quite poorly seasoned. A real disappointment. I can't eat seafood so I had the Kat's Steak Sandwich. It was soaking in gravy. Soaking. people, at lunchtime, ordering a soup a steak sandwich diet pepsis and cost over with a lean tip. That's kind of nuts, imo
We all enjoyed the food here, and I’d recommend it to any seafood lover. The first time was on Sunday after getting off of the Digby ferry and traveling down to the south shore. We had the lobster roll, and the seafood sampler. Everything was...delicious, The lobster roll was piled with lobster meat and came in a mayo type dressing with green onion, spinach as greens. The fried seafood was cooked perfectly, the clams were lightly coated. The scallops were sweet and not chewy. Haddock was light breaded. Awesome meal. We enjoyed it so much we came back and had the lobster stew and boiled lobsters. They were also excellent, tender and sweet. I definitely recommend.
We visited Capt. Kat’s twice on our short trip to the Barrington area of Nova Scotia, simply because the food was so delicious. We recommend the clams, which weren’t at all chewy as most clams are, and the haddock was done to perfection. This is...a delightful restaurant!
