WonderGirl is a hard working, caring person who serves food she is proud of. Burgers are also a "must have"!
This is a cosy chip-truck stop (it’s a small cabin – no wheels) located at one end of the NAPA car parts lot on highway 60 at the eastern entrance to Barry’s Bay, ON. The menu is short but diverse featuring the fries and burgers in the name, along with grilled cheese, Friday fish and chips and the most hedonistic poutine this side of the Quebec border. Even if the food were no good this place would have a place in the culinary world for its support of local suppliers – local potatoes, beef, cheese and curds, buns and butter tarts among others… The fact is the food is great. We visited twice, first for a burger and chip lunch, followed the next day by a grilled cheese and poutine blow-out. We went the second time after talking to some fellow patrons on day one who waxed long about the poutine. These people come from Toronto on an agreed date to enjoy the special chips and rubbery curd that highlights the poutine. Portions are very large. The chips are hand cut by the WonderGirl herself and fried to order in lard. The burgers are a homemade tasty delight. The grilled cheese with tomato is a white bread bun/cheddar umami bonanza. The poutine is layers of chips, curd, chips and curd under a coat of brown gravy. If you order a large poutine share it with a friend. I suggest you save up some credits in your cholesterol bank before you visit WonderGirl’s so you can have a ball when you order and eat. It’s worth a stop… and worth a return a few weeks later. The place is a great boost to the local economy and a great country eatery with tables, water for your dog and lots of parking.
I love the food at Leong's so much that I honestly wish I lived further away from it. It's just that good.
So had to give Leong's a try when I heard that cashew chicken originated thereHad to be good, right? Yup, not so much.
