This one used to be more for sitting there, not posh or exclusive, just as we live here good value on a sunny evening But I have to be honest, what we had yesterday was beyond from eatable, my salad ok but the you have ask for EVERYTHING which is not typical for a Turkish restaurant, century old olive oil, two pieces of bread and the speciality was not what it should be. Service was I do not have a problem with language or foreigners they work hard: But she was unfriendly , slow and could hardly understand that I had someone allergic to pepper wirh me. The dish was really bad. The worst about this place is it has a good location, but 2 other competitors and so I will go to the neighbouring one because cheap or not: It was bad, unfriendly and the owner spent quite some time with another guest. I felt ashamed! Maybe the owner has changed but if you feel for a cheap and local small place: This one is in perdition! Go next door. If they better up I will review but that 's not good! Sorry!
This little neighbourhood restaurant is an unexpectedly pleasant discovery just around the corner after years of living in Basel warm and cosy, with a friendly, unpretentious interior and run by helpful and very friendly owners. The pizzas were really good, very fresh with a thin, crunchy crust and savoury toppings, the salad dishes generous and the pasta fresh and steaming hot, just the way it's supposed to be. And the prices really were hard to beat at 5.50 for a salad and 12. for a sizeable bowl of pasta, they're the cheapest I've so far seen in Basel. The only (minor) drawback was the tomato sauce, which was obviously not home made, a fact which was however half made up by the fresh basil that was added as an asset. The place also serves quite a number of Turkish dishes, does take out as well as dine in, and just for the sake of completeness and because I believe that it says something about a host's attitude towards his guests the restroom, though small and none the newest, is obviously well looked after and clean. So all in all, a very generous, good feed at an excellent price in friendly and clean surroundings.
In my now 30 years of eating pide outside regularly in different European cities Camillo makes by far the best spinach pide I ever tasted. He adds a fine note of mint to the spinach, spreads the vegtables evenly and with care and uses tasty feta cheese, not some dogdy imitation cheese (that resembles mozzarella). It's juicy (the toping) and cripy (the dough) at the same time. Very friendly chef and his wife.
Take away any pizza for CHF 10. the pizza is always good and nothing arround here is comparable. The only downside is that this deal is so good, i feel like i am steali g the pizza every time ;
