Walliser Kanne - Basel

Fondue to share as a starter? Venison and veal for main course? Walliser Kanne Basel have it. The ambiance is great, food delicious. Staff are attentive though might come across brusque/borderline rude. We had a portion of fondue to share (I made a mistake of ordering a double portion once and could not look at cheese for weeks after and for the main we got a glass of red wine each and veal for the lady and venison for the gentleman. Very well cooked though I picked at my friend's plate and have to say I found spaetzli and sauce for venison overly salty. Other than that we had a very pleasant dinner : A word of warning: you won't be able to have fondue for 1 person there to share you will have to order something else or a at least a double portion of fondue. A bit pushy if you ask me as some people find fondue very filling (thankfully I don't!

Just had Basler Mehlsuppe right after Morgenstreich at the beginning of Fasnacht. Wonderful!!!

We booked this place based on recommendation from our hotel. We had a lovely confirmation email. When we arrived we were greeted warmly and they were clearly expecting us. There was a great vibe with a lot of tables booked for a cold Monday evening. The interior is lovely, very traditional . We had to try the fondue , having had it before on a previous trip in another restaurant. This time we included mushrooms . When it came it was beautifully delicious, you could taste the mushrooms and we had plenty of bread for dipping. We managed to eat most of it as it is a very rich dish. We also had a bottle of red and a bottle of white (which caused a stir ,… Our waiter was exceptional throughout, topping up our glasses adding a bit of humour to the conversation. We had a lovely evening , ok it may seem expensive but this is Switzerland ,

A little expensive (for the French) but very good fondue

To flee !!! Restaurant for tourists, exorbitant prices for a water fondue! They want us to believe in quality by inflating prices, but that doesn 't work for everyone, I 've never eaten such a tasteless fondue with such a bad texture! The servers are also unpleasant and in bad faith. Worst experience in a traditional restaurant. You will surely find better elsewhere, where you will not pay 48. /person for hot water fondue.
