L'Assiette Normande - Bayeux

Thoroughly enjoyed our delightful meal at L'Assiete Normande. The restaurant was busy busy, but our server was lovely and helpful. The food was perfectly cooked and we never felt rushed at all (our meal took almost three hours!) Make sure to get a reservation if you want to eat before 9:15pm.

This restaurant was recommended to us by Patricia from Hotel Bayeux as the place to find traditional dishes. Once again she was spot on! The restaurant is located across the street from the Cathedral. Our selections were delicious. We opted not to have dessert because it was getting late and we were headed to a local pub.

We stopped in for a late dinner while in Bayeux. We had to wait for forty minutes until they could fit us in until nine. So reservations are recommended, but not required. I had the steak pieces with sliced potatoes. As you can see, it was presented superbly and it tasted similarly. Dessert was good, not great. Everything else, from service to atmosphere, was tops!

This is a cosy little restaurant and popular with tourists. We booked in advance as it does get very busy. We ordered from the 18euro 3 course menu. We had onion soup; steak in onion sauce with chips; and banana chocolate tart. The chips are AMAZING but the rest was fairly average and a bit under seasoned. The beef was chewy and the banana tart was mostly a pastry case filled with a mushy banana mousse with a drizzle of chocolate - not what I expected. The most annoying part was terribly slow service. We appreciated it was busy and we are in no way pushy but we waited a good 20 minutes for anyone to ask us if we'd like a drink. The children's meals were supposed to come out with our starters but they never arrived, in fact we were served our mains and had to ask where our children's food was - they had clearly forgotten it and the waitress looked worried and raced to the kitchen to find out where it was. I would not return based on this experience.

We last visited this restaurant 10 years ago and it was brilliant then. The food is delicious and the service great. It was great to go back with our kids. They enjoyed their meal and got a great flavour of French cuisine on the first night of our holiday.
