After eating in vegetarian tiger five times in a row, I decided to try another restaurant. I'm so glad I chose this. knödel were delicious (generated portions! the atmosphere was beautiful and the staff was very helpful although not much English spoken!
The menu was fantastic, the service was excellent with two English-speaking waiters available, and the price was reasonable. I ordered Beijing tofu and wontons, both of which were delicious.
Service: the place is well-decorated, makes one feel like visiting an old, well-kept Chinese gathering place. The servers, especially the manager, were hospitable and attentive to details. Food: I ordered the spinach-mushroom pancakes, fake eels, steamed veg, baked sesame bread, mushroom soup, yam and blueberry cream. Everything was oily and my family left the restaurant having headaches; we don't cook with oil at home, so perhaps this doesn't apply to you... The first few bites of the eels were good, but after a while they felt too sugary. I would not recommend the pancakes as they were bland and the most oily of them all. The yam cream was weird and the steamed vegetables were splashed in oil. I did like the soup though. Price: 10/10 I desperately want to love this restaurant. The menu was extensive and I know the food was prepared with care as all of the dishes seemed so creative! I would come back again to try the seemingly less oily dishes! But for now, it's a 3-star : . Next time, Beijing.
