It was the first Westernized establishment we had come across in weeks, after traveling through Russia, Mongolia, and China. They offered pastries, cakes, and sweets that reminded us of those found in our own country. In many countries, sweet breakfasts are rare, with people usually opting for rice and savory dishes instead of pastries and coffee. Therefore, it was a delight to find ourselves enjoying cakes, pastries, and bread sandwiches alongside many other foreigners at this bakery. We later learned that this establishment also had locations in Australia, where there is a large Chinese population, but we had just missed visiting one there. If you find yourself in China and craving a taste of home for breakfast, 85 degrees is a highly recommended option.
We were pleasantly surprised when we stumbled upon this bakery-cafeteria in Beijing. It was the first place we had come across in weeks that offered a Westernized menu in Russia, Mongolia, and especially China. They had cakes, pastries, and sweets that reminded us of our home country. In most countries, breakfast is usually savory and people tend to eat rice and hearty dishes rather than pastries with coffee. We later found out that they also have locations in Australia, which has a large Chinese population, but we were no longer there. However, if you find yourself in China and craving a taste of your typical breakfast, 85 degrees is a highly recommended option.
