This spot is nestled just off the highway behind two gas stations and seems like the least savory place to be. It totally has that trucker vibe that may leave you feeling uneasy. BUT HANG IN THERE! When i tell you the wait staff here is so kind, that may be an understatement. We legit felt like we were dining at a friends house. Matt, our server was sooooo sweet! He was very thoughtful in his service to us. He gave us ample space to enjoy one another 's company while simultaneously engaging us in good conversation. Now. The part you 've been waiting for. The food. Friends!!! It was some of the best barbecue I 've had this far north of the Mason-Dixon! The ribs were soooo good. And I ordered a steak medium-rare assuming they (like most steakhouses would overcook. But it came out right!!! Like I said, this is DEFINITELY a spot worth visiting!
We drove around town for 40 minutes trying to find a restaurant without a line out the door... on a whim, I drove down to Bellville and figured we'd try KC's out! I've lived in the area on/off for 15 years and have never once stopped, but I can safely say, I will definitely be back! They were busy, for the size of the restaurant, but as a family of 5 (one preschooler) it was a joyous event to see nearly every other table consisted of families with younger children. There is nothing worse for anyone than to be in a packed restaurant and you're the only family with small children in tow. You suddenly become center stage, not always in the best way. Our wait once seated was long (maybe 45 minutes) but to be expected. I would never go to a steak and rib restaurant and expect anything less than a good wait. Good food is not rapidly fired. I'm the ex wife of a Sous chef and my husband now grew up in the restaurant industry, so I get it! We always come prepared with crayons and things for the kids to do, so it wasn't that big of a deal. Definitely not a deal breaker. If you're in a hurry, just don't go at dinner time on Saturday! The portions for kids are amazing! The kids cheeseburgers are ginormous! My 11 year old was easily satisfied and at most places we have to order an adult meal for him. The chicken tenders appear to be house made, my youngest enjoyed them. Wednesday's are kids eat for 99c, so we will definitely be back! I ordered a rack of ribs and my husband ordered the New York Strip. Both were absolutely delicious! Those ribs are the thickest, meatiest ribs around! They just melted and fell off the bone! Some of the best ribs I've ever had and my husband is from Texas, I've had good ribs! My husband's steak was juicy, tender, and cooked perfectly/evenly. He practically inhaled it, it was so good! Their desserts are also amazing! Their red velvet cake has the traditional red velvet icing, none of that cream cheese junk places try to pawn off as red velvet cake. So, save room for dessert! The servers are so lovely and friendly! Everyone was so nice, despite being busy. They were quick to clean the tables between patrons as well. KC's has a very inviting and homey feeling to it, we felt nothing but welcome there. If you are in the area and want a great family dinner, stop at KC's! It was money WELL spent and time well enjoyed! We will absolutely be back, many times to come!
Decent roadside stop. wanted to grab a bite in the way home and figured what the hell. Has a country NASCAR type of feel. Wife noticed our waitress wearing a pro Trump facemask.....LoL Service was good and tables spaced out well. We ordered Ribs and they were falling off the bone. The meat lacked flavor as if they had been boiled in water first. The sauce was (how you say) just ok. 3 Stars is because of the facemask....lol or I would give them 4.
The atmosphere here is awesome! There are old farm beams and rustic decor and is exactly what you would picture as a great little steakhouse. What was great- Ambiance/atmosphere. The people working were busting their butt as they were very busy and had few employees. What was Good- the food. I had a sirloin steak, Mac n cheese, and a baked potato (don't judge on all the starch lol) it was good, not great. My husband and dad had the special: an open faced roast beef sandwich and mashed potatoes. They both said it was good, but not great as it had too much gravy. My uncle had the pork chops and said they were good, but a little dry and the sauce on it helped a lot with the dryness. All in all, good food, not great food. What to improve on: staffing. The woman who seated us was actually a kitchen employee helping out since they were so busy. I give her credit as she did a great job seating us and getting our drinks until a waitress could help us, but i felt bad as i am sure she was also needed in the kitchen. Granted, it was a Sunday around 2pm and they had a table of about 20 women as well as a few tables filled. I am assuming they were understaffed due to unexpected larger crowds coming in. Overall, it was a good meal in a cool restaurant and we will definitely go back. I only gave 4 stars because the food didn't blow anyone away.
The steak was decent. It was grilled to medium, was well seasoned, and juicy. The baked potato was also decent also. It was cooked through, wasn't over cooked, and was seasoned nicely. For me, the meal fell short because of the mushroom and onion toppings that are served with the steak. They were undercooked, smothered in butter, and bland. The ambiance is 70's roadhouse and has a lot of interesting decor pieces that are reminiscent of the days of Smokey And The Bandit, or Convoy. The building is located up the hill at a busy interstate exit and probably gets a lot of traffic from that and the 2 motels there. All and all, a good experience.
