The staff was slammed but handled it beautifully, with two new employees on New Year's Eve adding to the challenge for the seasoned staff. The cocktails were delicious and the food was excellent, with classic American diner dishes that were well-prepared.
They should just save time and money and go to the GPO next door. It's overpriced, the food and service are terrible. The limited menu is likely due to COVID restrictions, but I will never dine here again. The service was unbelievably poor; it took ages to get the attention of the bartender and when we finally ordered, our appetizers were served after our main course. The food was honestly terrible. I had the chicken dish and it was dry, the chips were tasteless, and the salad was lackluster. It seemed like they had just bought a bag of salad from the supermarket down the road. The gravy was like glue. To top it off, we brought our own cake and asked the staff to keep the leftovers for us. After waiting for 45 minutes and asking multiple times, they finally handed back the cake lid after visibly rinsing and drying it. The staff seemed inexperienced and clueless. It's a shame that our Christmas dinner was such a disappointment compared to previous years. They really need some hospitality training - they can do it for free at TAFE or La Trobe, just a short walk away.
This restaurant has a very limited menu and the food is not good, it is actually terrible. The frozen appetizers are overcooked and served with just chips. There is an extra charge for a small side salad. There are no vegetarian or vegan options, except for a bowl of chips. Despite a big balcony and good music, there is no excuse for the poor quality of the food. They should consider improving their menu or they might as well go to McDonald's. There are much better food options in Bendigo, and Yard Bird at the Shamrock is not one of them.
I first visited Yardbirds in August 2016 and at that time vowed never to return however on the 8th December 2019 I was part of a group who ate there for Lunch and this time it was like a different restaurant, food wise at least....my meal steak, salad and chips was delicious! Steak cooked as ordered and a very decent piece of meat. I heard many comments about the various meals from the 15 diners I was with and all were very positive. Today I’d recommend Yardbird without hesitation
