Cheap and a large selection of ales. old rock music also on the sound system!
Best real pub in berwick. great lively settings in the night and a good choice of beer to good trips.
Back the day,' this bar was usually visited by pretentious no one's who thought they were richer, smarter and more cultivated than they were. But now, in today's form, it must be said that this place has turned into one of the best small bars in the city. friendly staff and mandant, good original beer and fine selection of spirituoses.
The Barrels Ale House is a quirky pub in the old part of the town near the walls and the old bridge. It is decorated with lots of old maritime and rural nicknacks and also has autographed albums and posters on the walls, including one by David Bowie. I was impressed with the range of local produce- beers from around the Northumberland and Tyneside area, and also the Scottish Borders (which reflects what a hybrid place Berwick is, a mixture of Scottish and North East England character). They also have unusual beers in cans and bottles, such as Beavertown Brewery and some from as far away as Iceland, or perhaps try a Belgian wheat beer? They have gigs in the basement, which is quite spacious, so look out for posters advertising what is coming next- everything from ska to folk seems to be gracing their stage.
