I would say it is just ok, I wouldn't go back probably as not being a fan of deep fried foods (people with us were) there were no options for me. I choose one piece of fish and coleslaw, it was very regular, fish seemed fresh but batter was simple, no tastes in it that were out of the ordinary. The fries were not tasty at all just out of the freezer type. The wait was long. Among the group we had the clams, fish, and a lobster roll on a gluten free bun ( was nice to have gluten free bun available) and would say you can get as good as or better at any place on the East coast.
I've been a fan of Ozzie's for well over 10 years, but was very disappointed in my recent visit. The lobster roll was not worth eating: it would be hard to tell that the chopped celery and mayonnaise contents were supposed to be even lobster-flavored, had it not been for the little piece of claw decorating the top. It was the worst abuse of the term 'lobster salad' that I have bumped into. I would have sent it back with complaints and a refund, had I not taken it 'to go'. The scallops were better but that is no excuse: if a restaurant can't offer a good version of something, they should take it off the menu, or you loose trust in the entire menu. I am embarrassed to have recommended Ozzie's to friends. I will be looking for a different restaurant to recommend.
We stopped on our way to Saint Andrews for lunch. Great fried clams and burger. Ice cream cone and hot fudge sundae were also excellent.
The whole fried clams are excellent. Our son got fish and chips, and the fish was also excellently battered and fried. The coating is a similar to tempura: light, crispy, and not greasy. The homemade tartar sauce was also really nice. I think it had dill in it. Coleslaw was pretty good as well. The fries were the frozen variety, nothing special. The gravy was a bit bland. And the meals were quite pricy ($20 for a big dish of clams & chips). But those clams really were exceptional.Service was friendly, and the '50s drive-in atmosphere and outdoor (but sheltered) picnic table seating was pretty cool.
