The pretzel, which costs nine dollars, was served cold and lacked any salt. It was clearly overpriced. The service was poor, and the staff watched us as we filled out the receipt for a tip. I should have taken the hint when we entered and saw only one other couple at a booth. Overall, it was a terrible experience, and I won't be returning.
I had been wanting to try Bethpage Burger Bar for quite some time, so I finally visited on a Friday night. To my surprise, the place was completely empty, with no other customers in sight. Given that it has a diner-like vibe, I expected it to be more bustling on a weekend. The menu featured a variety of burger options, but I opted for a classic burger topped with crispy onions, lettuce, and tomato, along with a side of French fries. The fries were quite tasty, but the burger was just average. The bun was a bit dry, and overall, it felt like any typical diner burger. I was hoping for a more impressive burger experience.
My husband took our kids and me there for lunch during a Saturday brunch hour. The food was delicious, and the staff were very friendly. However, I did have one disappointment: the kids' burgers. While the flavor was fantastic, the buns were burned—almost completely black—which I found unacceptable for my children. If it had been my burger, I might have overlooked it, but I certainly expect better for the kids' meals.
2 items were missing from the order and sides on one of the items were wrong. Pretzels tasted stale. Burger was salty. Burger and grilled cheese were dripping in grease. House salad was sent without dressing. Not a great experience.
I’ve been to hundreds of restaurants in my time and have put up with bad food, poor service, etc but this ranks as one of the worst I’ve ever experienced. Let’s start with the “waiter” and I use that term very loosely. He appeared to be about 17-18 and tried to take our simple order (2 burgers, an order of fries, 2 sodas) on what looked like an iPad. Struggling with the iPad for a couple of minutes he proceeded to ask us what we wanted and he actually said “what do you guys want?” without even so much as a smile. It looked like the owner pulled him off the street and was holding a family member hostage, forcing him to work. Even my 10 year old daughter rolled her eyes as he asked us at least 3 times what we wanted and he struggled to enter it into the pad. Well, after waiting about 20 minutes (there was only 2 other people in the place and they were only picking up orders) we got our food. The burgers were tasteless slabs of gray meat, looked like they were originally frozen and served on stale Kaiser rolls. Our fries were cold because our waiter disappeared into the corner before picking it up from the kitchen and didn’t come over to the table once to ask us how everything was once the food was delivered to our table. I wasn’t about to return anything for fear of what we would get back so we ate some of our meal and quickly hightailed it out of there. This poor kid looked so miserable I told him “smile my man, it can’t be that bad” to which he replied “yeah, I’m having a bad day”. Don’t have the help come to work in that condition, it reflects poorly on the whole experience. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere, even a mediocre diner would make a better burger.
