At the moment when I don't bring any lunch to work, I dine here. I've only ever had Kung pao Chicken on Rice but its always been amazing. I haven't bothered looking for anywhere else to dine because I've been so pleased. The interior environment is very nice, the prices are great, and the food's delicious.
Food ordered:<br/ Sweet Sour Spare Ribs w/ Rice<br/ Seafood Fried Noodles<br/ <br/ Bill: $30<br/ <br/ Big tummy: We came here because we heard they do a special where you get 10% off the bill if you book ahead and make a reservation (it's for dinner time only though, so not for the lunch time menu). We ended up ordering two dishes (what can I say... I was starving), with my girlfriend ordering the sweet sour spare ribs and myself opting for the seafood fried noodles. Firstly, the portions were massive... like we barely finished the two dishes between us. They're also incredibly generous when it comes to the stars of the dish, with my noodles absolutely full of prawn and squid pieces. Like I must've given at least a dozen pieces of prawn to my girlfriend and it still seemed like it was full of prawn. The food tasted amazing too the sauce on the spare ribs was just wow. Sweet and sticky, without being overbearing. The fried noodles also had a really nice flavour without drowning out the taste of the actual seafood, though they were a little bit oily. <br/ The restaurant has a really nice ambience too and the staff are relatively friendly compared to some Chinese establishments. I have a suspicion that some of the waitresses might struggle with English a bit though they kept trying to speak in Mandarin to my girlfriend who doesn't speak a lick of Chinese hahaha. All in all, I'd happily come back here though. <br/ <br/ Little tummy I've been here before and this visit certainly didn't disappoint. I decided to order the spare ribs, which were ridiculously good the sauce was just pure heaven. My boyfriend let me help myself to his noodles too, but I mostly just ate his prawns hahaha. Located right next to the Fresh n Save Asian supermarket on Porana Rd, this is the perfect place to stop for a delicious lunch.
The cost listed here is misleading $60 got us enough food for all THREE of us, and we were almost too full to finish the last of it. The sheer deliciousness of it kept us going all the way through. The great thing about authentic Chinese food, and the Spicy Chinese Restaurant is no exception is that you can eat so much, and you will certainly feel full but it's never a logey, sickly fullness. It's always a refreshing and happy sort of fullness. I always leave these restaurants feeling happy and energised.<br/ For those who are curious, the Spicy Chinese Restaurant serves mainly Sichuan cuisine (central China, known for its spicy food). I wanted to take Mum to one of these restaurants so she could experience actual Chinese food (hint: nothing even remotely similar to what you get at the takeaway) and what makes it so great I was worried that the spiciness and sweetness might overpower the natural nutritious value, but it didn't.<br/ <br/ When we went in, the place looked underwhelming as it had just opened, but when the food comes, it's like a party. We got some green tea as soon as the water boiled, as well as some appetisers spicy pickled radish and carrot like a sweet version of kimchi. The service was great, and the staff were friendly even though Chinese restaurant service tends to be more practical you want something, they get it for you. We had five dishes dumplings with hot sauce; spicy chicken; Sichuan eggplant (recommended); a steamed veggies with rice (sounds boring and looks boring but is actually delicious) and a sticky walnut rice cake for dessert (Chinese desserts are not usually sweet, but they grow on you quickly). Those five dishes came to 60 dollars. My girlfriend and I would often go to Italian restaurants, where two dishes a pasta and pizza with drinks, would come to the same amount. And always with those meals, I would come out lethargic from too much salt, sugar and gluten. With this Sichuan restaurant, it feels both delicious and healthy I can eat like a horse, and I feel ready to take on an army. Make sure you ask for a pitcher of water, as you'll probably need it.
Outstanding food taste! And a good potion. I asked my son, would you like to come back next time. YES!
