This is a decent cafe, notice I said cafe, not restaurant. So all the reviewers complaining about paying at the till … it’s a cafe! If you’d like restaurant service Fig Olive is a higher end, higher maintenance option. As far as the breakfasts go, I’d say it’s one of the better ones in Sutton Coldfield. Yes, it’s not cheap as other reviewers have pointed out. Cheaper breakfasts are available at Wetherspoons … but then you have to actually go to a Wetherspoons. Seriously. No. Like other reviewers I’ve noticed the cost increase, we’ve all noticed the weekly food shop increase, so I’m not sure why anyone would be surprised that a business that serves food would have to pass on increases they incur on ingredients to their customers. In terms of quality I’d say the breakfast has maintained a good standard, a solid 8/10 every-time. Staff are friendly and very attentive, more often than not are proactive if there’s an issue. Coffee is also decent. Areas the cafe could improve on. Chips, give them some more time no one wants chips looking like nosferatu. Jacket spuds, get them suckers crispy, flaccid jackets don’t cut it. Areas of perfection. PIE. The pies are great as is the Gammon.
Visited at midday on Sunday… it’s been a long time since last visit and sadly standards have definitely dropped. Ordered a cheese and ham toastie, a Sunday lunch baguette and a side of chips. Despite having great ingredients to work with the cooking was very poor. Roast potatoes and chips very under cooked.. baguette just 2 slabs of thick beef on a dry baguette with a smear of stuffing and a jug of thin tasteless gravy. Finally the cheese on the toastie wasn’t even melted. Simple dishes just poorly cooked and presented… won’t be heading back any time soon.
Like reviewers previously, we have been going to this Farm Cafe many times in the past and never been disappointed. Went for lunch and both had sandwiches . Was asked if we wanted crisps or chips to go with the sandwich. We had chips . Didn’t mention at the time we would be charged extra £1 for each portion. The sandwich with white bread was stale . Chips were undercooked and soggy . Again , the only positive was the friendly staff . Will return but only for a coffee . Wouldn’t be surprised if they have changed management
We went here frequently before Covid. Based on our two most recent visits we don’t feel the quality is as good now. Fish cakes for £11.95 turned out to be one uninspiring fish cake with soggy chips. Roast Sunday lunch today was average. Staff are friendly and helpful.
