Came over this place located in the middle of a pedestrian zone. I had a Balinese chicken curry that came out on a dazzling plate. It was honestly delicious, really delicious, really hot and cheap. My friend had tied Bay Bugs, which she also said fabulously. We also had cocktails here that were just okay. Menu is very Asian inspired with noodles and rice, but a good choice. Service just ok, but we didn't have to wait long for the food.
Located on Queen Street Mall, this restaurant is very convenient for a quick meal. The menu mainly features Asian dishes inspired by Southeast Asia and India. We tried the Indian vegetarian Thali and the Spicy Prawns and Scallops, which were tasty but slightly overpriced. The restaurant also offers a variety of noodle dishes such as pad Thai and Mee Goreng, but they were quite expensive at over $20 per serving. Due to the high prices, we were disappointed and decided not to return. The service was average, with the staff appearing more focused on taking orders and delivering food than providing a personalized experience.
The service and food were terrible. It was extremely slow and the staff was rude. I will not be returning to this restaurant. Such a waste of money, especially during this time of year.
I have been eating at East consistently once every three weeks or so for the past 4 5 years (when I travel to Bne), so I have spent thousands of dollars with them (I do not eat alone). I have noticed in that time the service...is deteriorating as they try to get away with less floor staff and the size and quality of the meals also reducing as they chase the profits; it is obvious that they rely on tourists and not regulars. recently their line is no we do not have that beer anymore or it has run out so that you are forced to order a more expensive beer obviously working on the tourist trade. I just ate there tonight with a colleague it was the last straw I know many are apathetic about restaurants and do not voice their concerns and I understand that as it may be a one off but being a regular and assessing their 'game plan ' over many years, I just had enough. I ordered simple grilled fish and chips. Pretty basic and I can actually cook that myself! What I received after nearly an hour was about 80gms of fish the size of filleted whitebait, of which one was recognisable as being a fillet and the rest were scrapings. Obviously all were grossly over cooked and tasted like rubber (I am sure you have all tasted over cooked 5mm thick fish). This time I did complain and all the Manager did was to blame the chief. I will not go back and I urge you all to think twice about going to this restaurant – even those on Albert Street are better, especially the Italian on the corner of Albert and Charlotte (I cannot remember the name but it is great and you will not get robbed there). I am sorry to have to write this negative review without stating one thing positive about East – maybe in a good location but the new Manager needs to lift his game.
