Absolutely, especially if they're good for pies and sauces, which you can find here. And let's not forget the cider—freshness is key, and it's great to see the machinery in action. Franklin delivers on all these fronts. The only downside is that during the peak cider season, the bees can become quite bothersome. If you can handle that, this is the perfect spot to enjoy a crisp fall day in Michigan.
My favorite cider mill in the area is Franklin Cider Mill! First off, the staff is genuinely friendly and sweet, which makes every visit a pleasure. The variety of products available is always exciting, and I love browsing to discover new apple-infused treats. I often stop by for a hot cider and donuts before or after events because I want to make the most of fall, which only comes once a year! I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because the donuts aren't great when you first buy them, and that can affect my overall experience. However, when you sprinkle them and heat them up, they taste much better, especially when dipped in warm cider. It's also worth noting that there's a lovely river filled with ducks, which adds to the peaceful and entertaining atmosphere. Whether you're looking for a quick visit or a longer stay, this place can cater to your mood. They even sometimes have live music! A must-visit in Michigan!
I've been visiting this place since my teenage years, which was quite a few decades ago. It has changed a lot since then, and it's great to see the expanded outdoor seating and storefront. The parking lot is also a decent size. I went on a Thursday around 4 PM and noticed some small lines outside, but no waiting inside. We decided to go in and ordered a hot cider and two donuts. The hot cider was really enjoyable and cost about $6 for a 12 oz cup, which I thought was a bit pricey, but I was craving it. Normally, we get a dozen donuts because they are always fresh, hot, and delicious. This time, we only ordered two, which came out to nearly $2 each. They were fairly small and at room temperature, but still had a lovely flavor. I would definitely return, but next time I’ll make sure to ask for fresh donuts.
So glad this core memory from my childhood still stands! Still smalls the same, same crisp air ambiance and beautiful bridges over the ducks swimming in the creek. From the big red wheel to the taste of the donuts and cider. Made my heart happy to share this place with my son and my sister.
I love being in the Northern Part of the US, where there are so many great cider mills and orchards! Since I tend to go to Michigan Detroit often, a friend of mine told me that I have to check this place out. And I'm glad he did! Now, I will say the parking is tricky. I got there about 10am on a weekday, but I can imagine on Saturdays, that it's hard to snag a spot. Now, unlike a lot of orchards, they only have cider and some baked goods, and that's fine with me! The cider was amazing! And I love the donuts, because they weren't caked in cinnamon sugar or icing like a lot of cider donuts tend to be. This was definitely a great stop. I think it's only open from Labor Day through the Fall though, so keep that in mind. But I highly recommend it if you're in the Detroit area!
