Blue Cafe - Bolton

Upon entry the café is bright, tables are clean but quite dated. There seemed to be far too many staff/ family members loitering around the kitchen chatting away and they constantly stared at me as if I was an unwelcome outsider during my short visit This was intimidating and made me feel nervous. The old, laminated menus are sticky to touch,. The prices are quite high for what you get; not value for money at all. The Full Monty Breakfast for example : 2 bacon and the 1 small, deep fried 'chippy sausage ' was hard on the outside and a soggy goo on the inside; naturally this went back. They actually counted out a single tinned tomato onto my plate and the single egg was over cooked. The small portion of mushrooms were like rubber the only thing that tasted okay were the beans and the single piece of medium toast. Each item of food had the same nasty taste of grease. that matched the ambience. The staff were not dressed in uniform or clothing you would expect to see in a café and looked as if they had just fell out of bed. As soon as the sausage went back they made me feel unwelcome and started clearing my table before I had even finished my cup of tea and had a chance to look at my newspaper. I feel that this is the normal treatment for anyone who dare criticises their food. Overall experience was terrible, the food was very poor quality and overpriced. and the portions were tiny; not enough for a child let alone a working, adult male. Budget Food Premium Prices Don 't bother! wasting your money here!

First time here and I have to say the place is lovely. Clean, tidy and the staff were great. Food was very tasty, would definitely return.

Bang average food, not exactly cheap for frozen sausage and wonder bread, defo won’t be goin again not very pleasant people either

I'm a local and a regular. The Blue Cafe is great place for breakfast or a down to earth lunch. Nothing fancy, but everything they do is done well. Recommend the breakfasts and if you ask they do great poached eggs. I've also tried the steak and kidney pie and the pudding and chips. Both excellent. It can get busy at times and noisy with a full range of customers: families with babies and young children, working folk and groups of retired friends. Staff are friendly and capable providing great service and easy clean surfaces mean that everything is spotless.
