Fat Penguin - Boroondara

Perfectly placed on High Street, Fat Penguin is your classic local cafe. The decor is warm and inviting and walking into the beaming faces of the staff makes you smile yourself! There is nothing worse than getting a bad coffee and, though even the best baristas make mistakes every now and then, I have still never had a bad coffee at this place. Now, onto the food, if you are not in the mood to sit down, they offer a solid range of delectable paninis, salads, rolls and other typical on the run treats. And, while they are great, sitting down gives you the chance to sample from the well constructed menu. The benedict is brilliant, the pancakes are perfect, the green breakfast bowl is grand and, being a millennial, their take on the smashed avo is superb. Of course, they are just the items I have tried. Take yourself there and try them for yourself, of explore the plethora of other choices. As the saying goes, "you don't make friends with salad", though I think Fat Penguin probably still would.

Love this, love cafe, love atmosphere. Great time for lunch with my friends. Returning SOON, I swear.

Love this gem of a cafe in Kew East! The business owner Jenny is the perfect hostess and the Ricotta Gnocchi was beautifully presented and tasted even better than it looked. The Wagyu Burger with Beer Battered Fries was juicy and tasty, with the fries crisped to perfection! Need to go back again soon to try the Eggs Benedict!

Open 7 days/ week even at 8am on Anzac Day. I had a big, hot cafe latte - just right on a drizzly morning; with delicious toasted banana-and-walnut bread. All the staff are friendly and efficient. The decor is inviting, with a mix of individual and group-style tables, cushions and magazines for browsing.

From the moment I walked through the door I was greeted with friendly staff wearing beautiful smiles. The maitre d did a superb job chatting informally and attending to our needs. One friend has severe dietary requirements and these were very well catered for on the menu and the food delivered to the table was excellent. It is a family friendly restaurant. I would most definitely return to this establishment.
